Statement from the Los Angeles World Affairs Council: Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day
Today, the Los Angeles World Affairs Council joins communities across the United States and around the world in observing Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day.
We honor the memory of the estimated 1.5 million Armenians who were systematically killed between 1915 and 1923, and we recognize the enduring legacy carried forward by survivors and their descendants.
As an organization dedicated to global understanding, civil dialogue, and the advancement of human rights, we reflect on the lessons of history and reaffirm our commitment to education, mutual respect, and the prevention of atrocities wherever they may occur.
We also acknowledge and celebrate the vibrant Armenian community in Los Angeles and Southern California, the largest outside of Armenia, whose cultural, civic, and economic contributions enrich our region and strengthen the fabric of our shared community.
On this day of remembrance, we stand with the Armenian people and all those committed to ensuring that the lessons of history are neither forgotten nor repeated.
